SESSIONAL TUTOR - LONDON

Job Title: Sessional Tutor

Immediately responsible to: Head of Department

Job Purpose

To deliver high quality specialist teaching and related support to students on elements of specified course/courses at Higher Education level for the agreed dates and times.  To undertake any other duties reasonably falling within the scope of this role.

Main Activities and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Head of Department to take responsibility for the preparation, delivery  and where required, assessment of modules, or parts of modules, in line with the specified delivery plans
  • Deliver engaging and specialism informed structured learning experiences  in order to  support and facilitate students to meet specified learning outcomes both within the session and the module
  • In conjunction with the Head of Department and other colleagues, innovate and employ differentiated teaching and assessment methods that address the needs of learners who have additional learning needs as well as those who do not
  • Ensure teaching spaces and digital resources are adequately prepared for and maintained  
  • Where required, work as part of the course team, under the direction of the Head of Department, participating in formative and summative assessment  
  • Undertake academic administration in relation to reporting on attendance, completion of tutorial records as required, and other tasks associated with course organisation 
  • Contribute to course development and quality assurance processes through engagement with colleagues and the Head of Department  
  • Maintain reasonable, effective and efficient communication with the Head of Department, other colleagues and students (including through the use of Google Classroom)
  • Keep abreast of developments in specialist field/fields and in the fields of education and training
  • Participate in QA processes and professional development opportunities

Other Activities and Responsibilities

  • To be familiar with approved policies and procedures on Health and Safety and safeguarding
  • To demonstrate commitment to LMA’s Teaching and Learning Delivery strategy
  • Contribute to recruitment, Open Days and other forms of marketing as agreed

Person Specification

  • First degree in a related discipline or relevant leading edge industry experience
  • Teaching qualification or preparedness to work towards this
  • Sufficient depth of specialist knowledge to develop teaching programmes and provide learning support
  • Knowledge of HE and an ability to employ a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students
  • Understand equal opportunity issues as they may impact on academic content and issues relating to student needs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate complex and conceptual ideas to a range of audiences
  • Ability to demonstrate independent and self-managing working styles
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet agreed deadlines
